Dear Reader,
When you think about landing in a strange land where you don’t speak the language, and you don’t know the customs, and you’re not even sure how to ask for the basics, does it terrify you?
It probably should.
Let’s be real, at times this week I’ve felt scared, lost, overwhelmed, and vulnerable.
So happy to finally be in Portugal, and also, all those things above.
What’s pulled me up and out of all of that has been the incredible kindness of friends and strangers.
People who have gone out of their way, above and beyond, to help me and Loki have a soft landing.
When I last wrote to you, Marcel, (our pet taxi driver) had dropped us off at Bom Sucesso Resort. We arrived at night, in the rain, driving on curvy roads through eucalyptus forests for what seemed like many miles.
