Why We Decided to Move to Portugal &
5 Reasons You’ll Want to Follow Along

Dear Reader,

When I realized I was ready to move out of the United States, I started looking for a new place to live abroad.

I felt overwhelmed, and blind to what I didn’t know.

Honestly, the whole concept was really challenging—mentally and emotionally, but I persisted.

A few years later, we’re *this close* to getting a long-term visa and moving to Portugal.

You may be in the same place.

You know you want to leave and go someplace new, but you haven’t pushed the “go” button.

I get it.

There’s a lot to do to get ready!

  • Fill out all of the paperwork.

  • Rent or sell your home.

  • Store or ship stuff.

  • Gather the funds to move.

And what about preparing yourself mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically?

That’s important too.

Before we move out of a physical state, we get ready to get ready to get ready.

My goal is to inspire and encourage you with storytelling and resources.

And share some lessons learned. Like these ones.

Lesson 1: Make Connections Before You Go

Over the past year, I’ve focused on making connections.

I’ve made new pen pals and friends in Portugal.

I’ve engaged a relocation expert and an accountant.

I’ve started taking language lessons.

Lesson 2: Start Getting Rid of Stuff

It’s expensive to move all of your stuff.

Some of it you can’t move.

Some of it you don’t want to move.

So start downsizing now.

Particularly paper!

Lesson 3: Your Biggest Challenge Will Be Housing

Rent or Sell?

Buy or Lease?

Where’s the best place for us?

How do I get a lease from here?

Lesson 4: Get Help With the Paperwork

I used to be very insecure about asking for help.

Not no more.

To get to Portugal, you’ll need to prepare an application packet of 50 pages or less.

This includes notarized documents, FBI background checks, and proof of income.

It includes getting a Portugal bank account and a Portuguese version of your social security number.

You CAN do it yourself, but I recommend getting some help.

I’m using Relocate to Portugal.

Lesson 5: Trust Yourself

A big part of success is going in a different direction.

This takes courage and trust.

You’ll be challenged in ways you never thought possible.

Some people will approve of your decision.

Others will not.

Remember one thing:

You can trust YOU.

The number one reason to read my newsletter is to feel inspired and encouraged.

If I can do it, you can do it.

Go ahead, I dare you.
