Olá from Portugal. I am a US citizen who immigrated to Portugal from Indiana two and one-half years ago. It really is amazing the questions you get asked about leaving "the greatest country on earth" to go anywhere else -- especially Peru, Panama, Paraguay and tiny Portugal. Have a blast Janelle. You and Doug are in for an amazing ride. You will experience lots of ups and downs but mostly ups. If you are ever in Lisbon look me up.

I’m so excited for you both! My husband has talked about retiring to Portugal, but I’m vying for France only because I’ve put a lot of effort into France and can’t bear the thought of starting over! It would be hard to leave the community we’ve built here, so many part time? Anyhow, I love hearing about your adventures.

Sarah! Thank you! I very much hope you move to France and visit us in Portugal! I have another friend moving to France 🇫🇷 this year. I should introduce you, and my pastor has a friend in France too. We should all connect.

Yes, totally! I think about being in France all of the time, but visiting a place and living there are totally different. I have a beautiful community here and would hate to give that up. Maybe I can rent out my house here for part of the year :D

That’s a great idea! Doug’s friend spent a year in France on a ski patrol exchange. Maybe there is an artist in residency program like that?

So funny! Some people think Portugal is an island. I guess you could say that it is an island surround by water on two sides and the Spanish jealously on the other two. I hope no Spaniards are offended! I love Spain , too!

Hahahahha that is great Steve! I love that description! I can’t wait to visit Spain too. Which is also in Europe. Lol!

Meanwhile I’m thinking of Arizona where it was 110 for the 54th day in a row…no thanks.

Many Americans will never understand why you would leave the U.S…especially those of A Certain Age.

Agreed Cie! I will pass on the AZ heat and the FL craziness.

Polka, yes! Love this! My dad was a big fan of polka and had an impressive collection of polka records. When I was little, he'd put one on the record player, invite me to come and stand facing him with my stocking feet atop his shoes, wrap his arms around, and off we'd go laughing and polka-ing through the house. Sweet memories of him.

🥰 That is so sweet! My mom is a big fan of the polka too. It’s a great way to start the day!
